Palu, C Sulawesi, (antarasulteng.com)- Flash floods that have inundated several villages in Tolitoli District, Central Sulawesi, since Saturday, claimed two lives.
The two victims were respectively inhabitants of Tuweley and Tambun villages, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Iqbal Alqudusy, spokesman of the Tolitoli police office, said here, Sunday.
The flooding has occurred following incessant heavy rain since Saturday noon that caused Tuweley River, Lembah River, Dakitan River and Tampun River to spill over their banks, he said.
Tens of houses were flooded in the villages of Tuweley, Baru, Buntuna, Panasaka and Tambun.
The floods swept away six homes in Dakitan, four in Buntuna, and three in Baru.
The flooding also triggered landslides in several areas. A certain section of Trans-Sulawesi road, that connects Palu and Tolitoli, was cut off due to the landslides.
The road is shut for three to four days while effort to remove rock and mud from the road is going with the help of local inhabitants.
