Palu, Central Sulawesi,  (antarasulteng.com) - Thousands of 2017 Lebaran holiday travelers have started to throng the Mutiara Sis Aljufri Airport in Palu, Central Sulawesi, since the past two days.

Chief of the Mutiara Airport Benyamin Noach Apituley remarked here on Wednesday that the number of homebound travelers had continued to increase since the past two days as compared to that in the previous days.

He said the number of both departing and arriving passengers at the Mutiara Airport has increased drastically.

Apituley explained that in the past two days, more than three thousand passengers had departed from the Mutiara Airport for different destinations.

He noted that security arrangements at the airport had been intensified in the run up to the 2017 Eid al-Fitr holiday mass exodus to anticipate any untoward incident.

"Security remains our priority at the airport to ensure the safety and comfort of travelers," Apituley remarked.

He said that since some time, the airport has opened a command post (Posko) for the Eid homecoming to ensure the smooth flow of travelers using air transportation services.

According to Apituley, Posko officers perform activities round the clock since the flow of homecoming visitors has certainly increased in the previous years, as the Eid festivity draws closer.

He said the increased flow of homecoming travelers, of course, must also be anticipated, with increased security at the airport to anticipate any untoward situation. (skd)
