Central Sulawesi Hopes For Immediate Implementation Of Project

Palu, C Sulawesi, (antarasulteng.com) - Central Sulawesi hopes for immediate implementation of a US$5 million joint venture project planned by Chinese, South Korean and Indonesian investors in that province.

Regional administration secretary Mohamad Hidayat Lamakarate witnessed on Wednesday the signing of the investment cooperation agreement between Tidfore of China, Kowepo of South Korea and PT. Bangun Palu, a local partner to build Special Economic Zone (KEK) in the provincial city of Palu.

The Chinese and South Korean companies agreed to invest US$5 million (around Rp6.5 trillion) in the project .

Hidayat said the provincial administration would facilitate the implementation of the project hoping that the project could be implemented as scheduled.

"We guarantee facility in licensing and other administrative requirements and investment security," he said.

Hidayat said all companies investing in Central Sulawesi are expected to give priority to local people in recruiting workers to evade resistance from the people.

Jung Ha Hwang , the president and chief executive officer of Kowepo said he would seek to meet all the regional expectations.

"We will seek to modernize power generating industry in Indonesia with the skills and technology we have. It is important for Indonesia as an ASEAN leader," he said.

In the opening of the Pantoloan KEK 2017, Kowepo promised to build a power plant with a capacity of 5,000 megawatts in the KEK . It also has project in South Sumatr4a.

Meanwhile, Hu, representing the Chinese government, said the Chinese government fully supports the operation of Tidfore in the country, in Central Sulawesi in particular.

Dr. Suryo Atmanto, who is in charge of implementation of the Nawacita program of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), said the cooperation between the three companies is part of the realization of the nine point program to accelerate Indonesian development.

Dr Suryo said the government of President Jokowi gives priority to regional development, not concentrated in Java, to redress economic balance.

"There are people doubting realization of the program to build new power plants with a total capacity of 35,000 MW , but we in Nawa Cita Indonesia is confident the program could come to reality," Suryo said.

The government has mad a target for itself to build new power plants to increase the country power generating capacity by 35,000 MW until 2019 . Many including officials, however, have doubted the program saying it is too ambitious. (skd)
